CONFLICT MANAGERS

At Carpathia School, Conflict Managers are on duty at recess. They are carefully chosen trained students from Grades 4 to 6. Conflict Managers help other students, in a non-physical dispute, solve their problems. They do this by using a problem solving process to clarify the nature of the dispute and to reach a solution that is satisfactory to both disputants.

The benefits of the program are many:

• The Conflict Managers themselves tend to gain confidence in their own abilities.

• Our students learn from the Conflict Manager problem solving process, how to get along better with each other.

• Since arguments are usually settle before students returned to class, they can spend more time learning and interacting with others in a constructive and friendly manner.

• The student leaders and those who become involved in a resolution of problems are gaining skills that become an intrinsic part of their repertoire of abilities.
