BOARD
COMMITTEES
There are four Standing Committees which consider items within their
terms of reference
and make recommendations to the Board.
Policy/Program
The Policy/Program Committee consists
of the Chair of the Finance/Personnel Committee, the Chair of the
Building/Transportation Committee, the Chair of the Public
Relations/Communications Committee and one trustee at large who chairs
the
Policy/Program Committee.
The Committee reviews policy recommendations and deals with matters
directly relating to the quality and type of education provided at the
elementary, secondary and community levels including all aspects of
program planning, both curricular and extracurricular. The Committee
also deals with matters affecting services provided to students and
performs consultative duties relative to communication with students,
parents, teachers and administrators on educational matters.
Finance/Personnel
The Finance/Personnel Committee consists of three members of the
Board. The
Committee considers and makes recommendations respecting budget
guidelines, monitors the budget, acts as an audit and financial
advisory committee and deals with personnel matters of a non-routine
nature and/or personnel policies. A representative of the
Finance/Personnel Committee sits on each of the management committees
for negotiations with employee groups.
Building/Transportation
The Building/Transportation Committee consists of three members of
the Board. The
Committee deals with long range planning; building and site
requirements; the promotion and coordination of community use of
schools; school design, construction, and alteration; maintenance of
buildings and grounds; the naming and opening of schools; and matters
related to transportation of students.
Public Relations/Communications
The Public Relations/Communications Committee consists of three
members of the Board. The Committee reviews and recommends policies
outlining the Division’s public relations and communications
processes.

Advisory Committees
The Board has four district Advisory Committees (Central, Inner City,
North, South) and a
French Immersion Advisory Committee, comprised of parent council,
community, and student representatives, which have been established to
provide a line of communication between the Board of Trustees, School
Parent Councils and the community. There is also a Student Advisory
Committee which includes two student representatives from each of the
Division’s high schools.
Meetings of each Advisory Committee are held approximately four times
per year at 7:00
p.m. on a weeknight.
