BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The Winnipeg School Division is the largest School
Division in the Province of Manitoba.
The Division provides educational programs and related services for
approximately 34,000 students from Nursery to grade 12, including
a significant inner city and multi-ethnic population. The total staff
complement is approximately 4,200 employees. The physical plant of the
Division consists of 90 buildings, approximately 5.2 million square
feet of building space and approximately 300 acres of grounds.
The Board of Trustees of The Winnipeg School Division
is comprised of 9 trustees who are
elected for a four-year term by the electors living in the Division.
The term of office for the present trustees is from November 6, 2006
to November, 2010.
The primary responsibilities of the School Board include the
establishment of policies
governing the planning and delivery of educational services in the
Division’s schools, determination of the annual budget, and
authorizing the spending of Division funds in accordance with the
Public Schools Act.
The Mission of The Winnipeg School Division is to provide a learning
environment that
promotes and fosters the growth of each student’s potential and
provides an opportunity for the individual student to develop the
knowledge, skills and values necessary for meaningful participation in
a global and pluralistic society.
To accomplish this Mission, The Winnipeg School Division provides a
wide variety of
programs and services to meet the needs of all students attending
Division Schools.
