The Winnipeg School Division reviewed and evaluated a number of
network management products that would assist the Division in managing all
aspects of its wide area network and local area networks. A pilot of the
NetForce Management Systems solution was conducted during the 2002/2003 school
year.
In June 2003, the Division entered into an agreement with
NetForce Corporation for the NetForce Management Systems application to assist
with the management of all technology-based hardware and software.
The implementation plan of the NetForce system consisted of 3
major phases - Phase 1- Computer-related Technology Equipment Inventory; Phase 2
-Moveable Equipment Inventory; and Phase 3 -Work Orders. The development of an
implementation plan associated with the conversion of the software inventory is
under review.
Implementation of the conversion of computer-related technology
equipment into the NetForce system began during the 2003/2004 school year. During 2004/2005,
the implementation of the NetForce system for computer related technology
equipment was completed in all schools and
NetForce training was provided.
Beginning in March 2005, individual school’s moveable equipment
inventory consisting of all other equipment excluding computer-related
technology equipment, was entered electronically into the NetForce system.
Schools and administrative departments were provided with specific instructions
related to revising the imported moveable equipment data.
A pilot of the work order module of the NetForce system began in
the 2004/2005 school year. The implementation of the NetForce Service Request
(work orders)
Module for technology-based equipment in all schools was completed during the
2005/2006 school year.
The Division is currently evaluating bar code scanners to assist
schools and administrative departments with the ongoing maintenance of equipment
inventory within the NetForce system.
