The Building
Department is responsible for coordinating the physical environment with
the people and the work of the Division. This department manages Division
facilities by integrating the principles of business administration,
architecture and the behavioural and engineering sciences.
The physical plant of the Division consists of 90 buildings with
approximately 5,130,000 square feet of space and 300 acres of grounds,
valued in excess of 360 million dollars.
Approximately 440 staff members are employed in a multi-union
environment to deliver four main services to meet Division needs:
- Building Operations and Maintenance
- Preventive Maintenance Program
- Planned Facility Improvement Program
- Facility Capital Construction Program (Supported by the Public
Schools Finance Board)
The Building Department is comprised of three main sections, Planning
and Design, Building Construction Trades and Operations and Maintenance -
primarily custodians, with administrative support for each section.
The Building Department delivers infrastructure needs of the Division
in consultation with senior administration, school administrators and
community advisory groups under the general direction of the
Board of Trustees.
